The Joint Entrance Examination (Main), popularly known as JEE Main, is a national level entrance exam conducted by the NTA to offer admission to BE/BTech, BPlan and BArch courses at the NITs (National Institute of Technology), IIITs (Indian Institute of Information Technology) and other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs) across the country. JEE Main is also the gateway for JEE advanced. Only the top 2.5 lakh score holders in JEE Mains 2021 will be eligible to apply for JEE Advanced for admission to various undergraduate engineering programmes offered by IITs in India.

JEE Main is a computer-based online test conducted by National Testing Agency for students aspiring to pursue undergraduate courses in top engineering institutes in India. It is the first phase of the IIT Joint Entrance Exam. The JEE Main examination is conducted in two sessions and candidates can take the exam either in the month of January or in April. The candidates can further opt to appear for one exam or both exams. The better of two NTA scores will be considered by the exam conducting authority in preparing the ranks/merit list.

More significantly, students are granted admission to IITs, CFITs, NITs, and other Government funded technical institutes based on the marks obtained in JEE Main. Also, the top 2,50,000 students from JEE Main will qualify to appear for JEE Advanced.
